Day 13
Today’s prompt (which you can read here) was to write a poem in the form of a news article you wish would come out tomorrow.
I didn’t fancy the prompt, but as we get very little of it in the news, I dug out a rough draft about different types of truth and typed it up. It’s a bit wonky and the rhymes are a bit awry, and I think it needs another finishing-off verse … but at least I’ve made it through day 13!!! (not that I am superstitious – ha ha!)
Are the truths I know too small?
I read of people’s inhumanity,
revealed by war.
I read of lost women awaiting rescue,
abused and called whores.
I read of all the people in this world
who won’t eat today;
of all those without water who would see
my daily bath as luxury.
Next to these, the truths that are known to me
are bendy, soft; not newsworthy:
That you can make extensive plans
but things end up the same.
New glass has lost the swerves and waves
of milky old glass panes.
That a daisy bumps against my soul
with the same heft as a single star,
and a natural death causes restlessness
like a cat circling by the fire.
